Proposed and commercially available applications for animals abound, yet only a small percentage have been subjected to scientific evaluation. As a result, the actual influence on animal health, production, and well-being remains largely unknown. Even though some technologies, for example, estrus detection and calving detection, are widely utilized, there are other comparable systems that experience a slower adoption rate. Opportunities for the dairy industry through PLF include early disease identification, more precise and consistent recording of animal information, predicting animal health and welfare concerns, increasing the effectiveness of animal production, and establishing an objective measure of animal emotional responses. A comprehensive investigation into the state of PPR disease, its financial consequences, the cost-effectiveness of vaccination, and field veterinarian opinions regarding the Karnataka vaccination program was conducted in this study. Analysis included secondary data, plus cross-sectional surveys of 673 sheep and goat flocks in 2016-17 (Survey I) and 2018-19 (Survey II), and input from 62 veterinarians. Veterinarians' economic costs and public perceptions were evaluated using deterministic models and the Likert scale, respectively. The financial viability of vaccination programs was then assessed under varying predicted PPR incidence levels (15%, 20%, and 25%) using two different vaccination plans (Plan I and Plan II). Survey I indicated a disease incidence rate of 98% in sheep and survey II, an incidence rate of 48% for goats. Due to the substantial rise in vaccination rates, a noticeable decrease in the number of PPR outbreaks was observed in the state. PPR's estimated farm-level loss showed a difference depending on the particular surveyed year. Even in the ideal situation, under vaccination plans I and II, the benefit-cost ratio, estimated at 1841 for plan I and 1971 for plan II, demonstrated the programs' fiscal soundness. Over a two-year period, this study, encompassing 14 people with YOD and their trained assistance dogs, featured repeated interviews with 10 family carers to delve into their perceptions of an assistance dog's role. The interviews, recorded and transcribed, were then analyzed thematically, using an inductive approach. A diverse range of experiences, from the pleasant to the arduous, was narrated by them. Three key areas emerged from the findings: the human-animal bond, the nature of relationships, and responsibility for nurturing. Concerns regarding the resources necessary for carers, coupled with the financial support required for an assistance dog, were expressed. The study's conclusion emphasizes that trained assistance dogs are crucial in promoting the health and well-being of individuals with YOD and their family care providers. Despite this, support systems must be adaptable to the changing needs of the family member with YOD, and the concomitant alterations to the assistance dog's role in the family. By centering on the concepts of 'alleviating suffering', 'championing the voiceless', and 'propelling transformation' as fundamental principles through which veterinarians in animal research facilities advocate for animal welfare, we explore the intricate dilemmas faced by veterinarians working in environments where animal care and harm frequently overlap. Ultimately, we advocate for intensified empirical study of animal advocacy in diverse veterinary contexts, alongside a deeper engagement with the larger social frameworks that drive the need for such advocacy.
